M.S/Ph.D Programme in European Studies
Registration and Qualification:
A candidate for registration in the M.S/Ph.D Course Work Programme
must have at least a Masters degree (minimum IInd class) preferably
with a demonstrated ability to undertake high level research with
some published work. Candidates are required to clear a test conducted
by the NTS held in the University of Karachi with maximum 50% marks.
The minimum duration for presenting a Ph.D. level dissertation is
three years and for an M.S dissertation two years.
Students are initially enrolled on a provisional basis for a two-semester
course work in European Studies. After completing the course work
they submit their thesis plans for approval by Karachi University’s
Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR). The students are
then enrolled as full fledged M.S/Ph.D students. On the recommendation
of the supervisor a thesis can be converted from M.S into Ph.D after
considerable work has been done on it.
After due process, the degree in European Studies is conferred
by the University of Karachi.

M.Phil. Fees Structure Session (2011-12): The Center’s Academic Staff, now trained in European Union
subjects in European Universities, have, after completion of the
programme in August 2002, taken over the responsibility of teaching
these advanced courses of Forty Credit hours in the M.Phil course
work programme.

Certificate and Diploma Courses in European Languages:
The Centre offers courses in French, German, Italian and English
languages at the certificate level, and diploma in French language.
These are elementary courses spread over two semesters. Competent
language teachers conduct these courses. A diploma course in French
language is offered by the Centre for students who have already
obtained certificate in the language. The minimum qualification
for being eligible for admission to language courses is intermediate
and bachelor's degree for the outsiders who are not the students
of the Karachi University.
